I graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in 2002 with a degree in Traditional Five Element Acupuncture. I’m a member of the largest governing body for the profession in the UK, so I can offer you reassurance that my practice conforms to the highest standards. What’s more, I’ve pursued further training in areas that particularly interest me, including women’s health, fertility, pregnancy and the menopause.

Other acupuncture techniques used

As well as needling acupuncture points, I may also include other Chinese medicine techniques, such as moxibustion (application of indirect heat using moxa a therapeutic herb – to warm and relax muscles and stimulate the energy meridians) and cupping (glass cups with a vacuum seal placed on the skin to stimulate the blood flow and clear stagnant Qi).

What does acupuncture feel like?

Having an acupuncture treatment is a relaxing process and, although needles are used, you shouldn’t feel more than a tingle or an occasional dull ache.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture has been practised in the East for thousands of years. This holistic technique works to stimulate your vital energy (or ‘Qi’) and can be used in two ways: to strengthen your constitution and prevent illness; or to help relieve symptoms. Whether your energy is low and you’re feeling generally poorly, or whether you have a specific condition, traditional acupuncture can help.

How long does it take to notice results?

One or two sessions may be all it takes to start feeling the benefit, but chronic conditions will take longer to stabilise and may need regular top-ups. In the initial stages, weekly appointments are quite normal.

Is acupuncture suitable for me?

Acupuncture is suitable for people of all ages and can be integrated with conventional medicine.

What to wear?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing. You will need to remove your shoes and socks before getting on the couch.

After your acupuncture treatment

After an acupuncture treatment, you are likely to feel great: relaxed, serene, ache-free, clear-headed, be ready to fall asleep and rest. It is advised to drink as much water as possible following the 24hrs after your treatment and avoid caffeine and alcohol during this time.

Are there any side effects to acupuncture?

You shouldn’t experience any major side effects, although it’s possible you may feel drowsy and have some minor bruising at the points the needle has entered. Sometimes your symptoms may arise as your Qi clears and settles.
